Laser Cut Wood + Oil Painting (inspired by Audrey Kawasaki)

I've just started making things at techshop (techshop.ws), while researching awesome things you can do with a laser I found audrey-kawasaki.com.

This is my first try at oil painting on wood AND my first use of a laser. I made it at Techshop!

Step 1:

First, I grabbed a line drawing of mine. Got it onto the computer so I could tell the laser about it.

Step 2:

I then laser etched the image and cut it out. It measures a little less than 3" by 5.5" (1/4" thick).

Step 3:

Then I sanded the wood a little to remove a bit of the scorch marks.

Then painted clear gesso all over to seal the wood and create a good surface to paint on. (Do one side, let it dry, then the other.)

The gesso should be allowed to dry at least 24 hours before being oil painted.
Unless you want subtle brush marks everywhere, the dry gesso should be sanded before you start painting.

Then I started to paint!

I feel like there must be so much basic oil painting info out there...?
If anyone wants me to try to describe my painting process please let me know.
