Materials

  • littleBits Deluxe Kit
    • 1 x 9V battery
    • 1 x power cable
    • 1 x power module
    • 1 x sound trigger module, sensitivity turned up
    • 1 x pulse module
    • 1 x light wire module (more if desired)
    • 3 x wire modules (more if needed)
    • 5 x RGB LED modules
  • Sound source
  • Rubber bands (optional)
  • Twisty ties (optional)
  • Way to attach lights to clothing/body

Step 1: Set Up

Assemble the littleBits modules in this order: Battery -> power cable -> power module -> sound trigger -> pulse module -> light wire -> 3 wires -> 5 RGB LEDs

Turn the power on, enable the sound trigger by snapping, clapping or making any other sound near it, and adjust the pulse speed to your liking. Adjust the r, g, b controls on the led modules to change the colors to your liking.

Step 2: Attach to Yourself

Get creative with how you attach the wires and modules to your body using rubber bands, twisty ties, or anything you have on hand. Loop the light wire through your belt loops if you want. You can hold the 5 RGB LEDs in your hand as a flashing glow stick or place individual modules between wires.

Step 3: Make Some Noise!

Choose a sound source. It could be anything! Your phone, iPod, sound system, etc. will work as long as it is close enough to the sound trigger. Make it even more personal by including the littleBits KORG synth kit! Use the micro sequencer and oscillator to trigger your littleLightParty and have your own one-person show. Example here.

Step 4: The Possibilities Are Endless

This is just the very beginning foundation for endless combinations of light and sound spectacles. Adding an Arduino module and software can control led brightness, sequence, timing, and so much more!
