Ever notice how secret agents and spies get all the cool gear? Now you can, too!
Make your own mini grappling hook out of everyday office and household supplies, then let let loose on a top secret mission from Her Majesty's Secret Service.

This grappling hook design was built from the new book Mini Weapons of Mass Destruction 2. This book has over 30 types of weapons and gadgets which can all easily be built with office or household supplies, most of which I had on hand already! I chose to build a personal favourite, the grappling gun. I recently got my hands on a copy of this book, you can read my review here.

Enough talk, let's make a mini grappling hook!

That, my friend, is pure epicness. One more reason to stall on my homework, consider me inspired. If you'll excuse me I'm going to search my house for supplies. I'll take pictures.

YOU GUYS ARE SO LUC KY! mine looks like a buncha pencils, bent up clips, held by duct tape
Emomeetsgothlol says: Aug 19, 2012. 11:48 AM
This is my grappling hook gun. I didn't have a wooden clothespin so I just release the elastic band by hand. I only have 2.7 m of floss though. But it shoots really good.

I made one too, but I didn't have a wooden clothespin so I had to use a plastic one. Now my hook don't shoot that far :(
Magh2os says: Aug 13, 2012. 2:28 PM
i added another barrel to mine so it shoots pencils as well as the grappling hook! i hid the string, too.

Awesome, thanks for sharing!
Where/how did you hide the string? I would be neat to show us how you made yours on your project page.

Magh2os says: Aug 13, 2012. 3:29 PM
the string is curled up inside the M&M tube handle, and here is a hole running through the lid and pencils base where the line comes out! i duct taped it so i could still use the tube without much difficulty.

You know what'll be cool, if you used a motor and attached it to the dental floss. That way, it'll be easy reloading.

My black and green version of the grappling hook. didn't shoot very far :( ,but it looks cool:)

Awesome instructable! I have tried to make many office supply weapons but none of them end up actually working. This one however, successfully shot the grappling hook thingy 5 meters!!! Hooray!
fridgeofconsumption says: Aug 1, 2012. 7:38 AM
I think ill use a spool of thread
mint001 says: Jul 24, 2012. 5:51 AM

That looks pretty good! You should try it again with different materials and see if you can get it to shoot farther.

For posting your version of this project I'm awarding you a digital patch and a 3-month Pro Membership to Instructables; enjoy!
mint001 says: Jul 23, 2012. 8:58 AM
Is there a reason for the floss? Or can you use normal cotton string?
mikeasaurus (author) says: Jul 23, 2012. 7:16 PM
Floss is thin and light-weight, but any thin string would work well.

thanx

mikeasaurus (author) says: Jun 20, 2012. 12:22 PM

NanoRobotGeek says: Apr 22, 2012. 1:39 PM
i just made one and they are pretty awesome! I used a pen lid for the handle and i didn't put paper on the hooks. It doesn't go too far but I guess thats because I used 2m floss not like 10m
