I always liked Faberges' 'Trans Siberian Railway Egg' and, when I found a working railroad set small enough to fit into an egg, this is what I came up with. I can't take credit for the railroad set, that goes to Tiny Trains but then, Faberge mainly designed the eggs. He had workshops with crafstmen skilled in various areas eg. enamelling, carving, stone setting, to carry out his designs. This is an ostrich egg which I decoupaged with antique map print tissue paper. I applied mini vintage train posters randomly on the top. It took a while to figure out how to get the wiring through the egg to the battery which I have hidden in the wood base. The layout was smaller than the egg, so I had to build a platform to set it on and then extend the landscaping with materials I luckily had on hand. I even had the right shade for the water. A switch on the wood base turns it on and off. It's quite mesmerizing to look at when it goes around.

Since I didn't see any further reference on the train manufacturer, let me add it here: Tiny Trains makes ready-made (and ready-to-decorate) tiny train layouts in TT scale, which is 1:900! These trains work based on a chain that runs under the layout. The train is connected to the chain through a slot between the rails.
