 Hi

At home I have Slimserver squeezecenter and a squeezebox. which is great.
I have recently got myself a HTC hero android phone.

I thought it would be great if I could use my phone as a portable squeezebox.

This is how I did it.

Step 1Software needed

Software needed
To set this up you need squezecenter installed on your computer.
there is plenty infomation on the internet on how to do this for various operation systems like windows, mac and linux.

you can get squeezecenter from here. www.logitechsqueezebox.com/support/download-squeezebox-server.html

You will also need 2 pieces of software installed on your phone. one piece of software to play the music stream and one piece of software to control the music server.

the software I used to play the stream is droidlive lite which you can get from the android market.
I used this software because it's free easy to use and works well. here is a link.

www.androlib.com/android.application.com-android-droidlivelite-jBCF.aspx

the second piece of software you will need is Squeezecontrol. there is other software which can control squeezecenter. But I chose this because it's free and works with the server password protection on.

you can get this software from the android market or from here. www.androlib.com/android.application.com-squeezecontrol-wAB.aspx

I can't get either xiaalive or aor to recognize my squeezecenter url? , , ,aor says 'URL not working' . . .any tips?

thanks - got it running by adding the URL via 'favorites' (in xiaalive), not in the 'search' . . . so this seemed to work - although, as noted by someone else very slow, > 2mins to start playing a new song (using Squeezecommander on the phone), but at least it works, so I'm happy (I also run my squeezecenter on a NAS with duet, which performs fine)

Both of the players worked form me [xiialive (was droidlive) and AOR]. There is so much delay that it gets confusing. If I start a new selection I need to stop and start playback to get past the buffered music. It might be due to running off a NAS. I can't lower sound quality since it says I don't have LAME installed. So thanks for getting me going with squeezebox on my new droid. Hopefully, someone comes out with a combined controller and player app. Thanks, Joe

Great tutorial!  However, as of May 2010, it seems that the A Online Radio app isn't working either - it won't let me add my stream.  Anyone know any other apps that will work?

Great stuff!  Got things working both on the local wi-fi and via 3G when I'm out and about.    As a plus, the squeezecontrol is vastly more responsive on the phone than using a web browser from my computer, so I'll be controlling my squeezeboxes from my phone from now on.

Thanks a bunch.

Great! If you get stuck on step 2, jump to step 5. I have been trying to do this for weeks!
