the ultimate blowgun

the ultimate blowgun
Forget all you have seen before, this is how to make the ULTIMATE blowgun and darts. i will show you everything you need to get started completely from scratch, and unlike other instructables, i'm a little more specific than 'a curtain rod' . I will show you how to make: the blowgun, hunting darts, target darts stun/non lethal darts, and the most efficient way of making the paper cones that last for a long time, and, most importantly, i'll show you the amazing, never miss technique for aiming a blowgun.

WARNING this blowgun is not a toy, it could seriously injure animals or humans, blowguns are surprisingly powerful when used properly, use with extreme caution,. i take no responsibility for your actions if you do decide to use blowguns inappropriately or decide to use them for illegal activities. this is a weapon. never use it against another person. i am posting this for informational purposes only.

if you like it, or even hate it, please let me know in the comments!!

i personally have been blow-gunning for 3 years. and can hit a pop can with a good hunting dart from over 100 feet.

this is my first instructable, go easy on me : )

the first thing you will want to do is get everything you need for the blowgun and darts.

blowgun:
1/2 copper tubing, available at almost every hardware store on the face of the planet, a good length is about 4-5 feet, the longer, the greater the velocity, distance, accuracy and power.

you can browse the fittings section for a simple mouthpiece, anything 1/2 inch copper or cpvc will fit perfectly. I personally don't need a mouthpiece, but some people prefer one for comfort.

darts:
1 or 2 sheets of all purpose paper, get a box of 500 from staples for less than 5 bucks.

small wood screws, some long for hunting tips, some much shorter for the stun darts

box of pins with balls on the end, ( like this 0-------------- ) get 100 from dollarama for a buck

coat hangers, also from dollarama, one or two should do.(one gives you about 10-12 darts depending on length)

super glue, it sticks to stuff, hard.

glue stick, it's glue, in a stick

tools:
hacksaw
hammer
grinding stone
dremel with grinding head
scissors
compass
pencil
sharpie
anvil
pipe cutter (at store)

I have used 18" pvc pipe, and had no issues. I would buy copper pipe, but I found this piece of pvc and cleaned it up, added a "new" mouthpiece from some pvc scrap we had around the house+ a fitting. IMO, Free is better. I was able to add some crude rifling to it fairly easily, and can get some pretty good velocity. I can, using a nail for a dart, puncture coffee cans :) I believe it is either 3/8 or 1/2 pvc, not quite sure.

I did that with darts, three times in a row and I'm not even sure how. It stuffed my darts though!
Sep 27, 2008. 7:32 PMgrevious says:
well the tanked part was a "joke". but i was going to start with a small target, say around 1 foot square, then start at ten feet and slowly go up to around 50 feet or so until i can get it about 8/10 times. then if i go camping i might try and get some birds if i feel brave enough, or maybe the snakes and rabbits i hear are there. but basically for target and fun stuff p.s.ill then paint racing stripes on my darts so theyll go faster.

well i went to my hardware store and ended up with what looks like 3 1/2 foot long piece ov pvc. it was that or a 18 foot piece... it was 18mm. half an inch is 1.27cm (12mm rounded off because thats the closest you can get) so i had to adjust the width of the compass, i worked out that it is about 3.4-3.5cm works. i cant get them to go as far as would liked but im going to tinker with it and reread the ible. p.s. if you put glue inside a cap (one of the small red ones from the 8 shots) then place it on the end of a dart it can scare the crap out of people.

OH NOES!!! I bet it's kind of bendy.
=(
Oct 4, 2008. 12:43 AMgrevious says:
cause im 15 and cant spring up $50 for a nice piece of copper tubing. but my sister owes me $70 so guess where thats going... and it doesnt bend on me my arms are long enough that i can keep it reasonably straight, plus i can nail a part of my fence from the other side of my backyard, it's about 60feet across i guess, give or take 10 feet, the fence part is about a metre across and 1.7 high, so im pretty good i reckon. p.s. i will get some copper pipe as soon as i have the money to spend on it. but i dont atm.

well.. i have not actually checked the prices, i just know that copper's expensive, since it gets stolen from construction sites and so on, lol.

i like the aiming technique you showed us, but i find a cheap laser pointer and a little duct tape to be much quicker and easier to use.

Great Instructable, I use the same dart making technique but I use nails, and I only use those for practice. I use a broad headed wooden shaft, but same cone.

hey, what would be the biggest game I could take with a 5mm wide broadhead and regular lungs (meaning I'm not an opera singer but not a smoker either, just an average bloke). Could I maybe kill rabbits within the 20 yards mark if hit in the vitals? How about pheasants, crows, pigeons, squirrels, frogs, snakes, my neighbor's butt? BTW, very nice tutorial on the aiming and dart making part. I came up with the aiming part on my own while practicing. 5/5

I've made my darts from paper and used pop rivets as the point. These are awesome! I can stick them deep into a plasterboard wall from 30 feet. The 'pointy end' is already quite sharp but they can be easily sharpened with a file in a few seconds.

I did a similar deed! I added some curare poison and took out my evil brother in law!!! He was from the Amazon Basin and was the one to make me knowladgible of these South American toxins made trom the skins of toads native to S.America...Serves him right for he was of "supposed" noble blood....

Oh, it still works.

Any one know what size the paper cone need to be for a 3/4 inch pipe?
Oct 27, 2008. 7:06 PMunominame says:
try using pieces of pop cans for your broad heads THAT WILL HURT and hopefully will kill small animals like: birds, squirrls, rats, bunnies ect... i tryed birds but i got my best dart stuck in a tree
