Introduction: The Ultimate Duct Tape Wallet

Picture of The Ultimate Duct Tape Wallet

It's hard to make but its worth it.

Step 1: Materials

Picture of Materials

for this you will need;

duct tape
clear packaging tape or clear plastic film
9 volt battery
rivet things (optional)

xacto knife
wire cutters
rolling pin
straight edge

remember to cut the duct tape with the xacto blade, if you tear the duct tape it will look crappy

Step 2: Start

Picture of Start

cut 2 pieces of duct tape around 42 cm long
overlap them by 1/4 (look at the picture to see what I mean)
make it into an inside out loop

Step 3: Make the Main Pocket

Picture of Make the Main Pocket

fold a piece of DT (i'm too lazy to type Duct tape) over the bottom to make a pocket
cover the outside in DT
at the top fold into the pocket

Step 4: Make the Pocket Divider

Picture of Make the Pocket Divider

overlap two pieces of DT
cover the sticky side
cut it so it can fit in the pocket

Step 5: Install the Divider

Picture of Install the Divider

put the divider in the pocket
DT the divider to the pocket at the ends
flatten it with the rolling pin
fold it in half an flatten it again

Step 6: Wi Not Trei a Holiday in Sweeden This Yer

Picture of Wi Not Trei a Holiday in Sweeden This Yer

bend up the metal around the top of the 9 volt
take out the top and cut it in half

Step 7: See the Loveli Lakes

Picture of See the Loveli Lakes

cut a hole in a piece of DT abuot a cm from the edge
stick the 9 volt snap through it
fold the DT over
repeat with the other one

Step 8: The Wonderful Telephone System

Picture of The Wonderful Telephone System

overlap two pieces of DT
cover the sticky side
cut it so it's 6 cm by 18.5 cm (i guessed on the secong measurement since i forgot)
draw the drawing shown below on the DT and cut the outside lines and fold the inside ones

Step 9: And Mani Interesting Furry Animals

Picture of And Mani Interesting Furry Animals

DT the 9 volt snap onto the folded pocket
then DT the pocket onto the wallet

Step 10: Including the Majestik Moose

Picture of Including the Majestik Moose

make the other snap into a flap and DT it above the pocket so it lines up with the other snap

Step 11: A Moose Once Bit My Sister...

Picture of A Moose Once Bit My Sister...

overlap two pieces of DT
cover the sticky side
cut it so it's about 9 cm by 10 cm
fold the top cm down

Step 12:

Step 13: We Apologise for the Fault in the Titles. Those Responsible Have Been Sacked

Picture of We Apologise for the Fault in the Titles. Those Responsible Have Been Sacked

stick the credit card slot onto the flap
stick the credit card slot onto the wallet too

Step 14: Mynd You Moose Bites Kan Be Pretti Nasti

Picture of Mynd You Moose Bites Kan Be Pretti Nasti

if you have plastic film instead of packaging tape (PT) ignore this

DT a piece of PT to the table face up
strip the glue off of it by sticking PT on it and pulling it up

Step 15: We Apologise Again for the Fault in the Titles. Those Responsible for Sacking the People Who Have Just Been Sacked, Have Been Sacked

Picture of We Apologise Again for the Fault in the Titles. Those Responsible for Sacking the People Who Have Just Been Sacked, Have Been Sacked

print out a symbol (in this case it's the irken invader logo)
PT it to a strip of DT
cut out the symbol
make 2 of them
stick the stripped PT (or the plastic film) on it
cut the DT so it's as wide as a credit card
put the other piece of DT on it that hangs a cm off both sides (make sure you sandwich the stripped PT )
cut a piece of DT 2 cms wide
put it on the bottom so a cm hangs off
put it on the wallet flap

Step 16: Finished

Picture of Finished

DT the flap onto the wallet
your done (yay finially)

(optional, well actually all of it's optional, but this is especially optional)
rivet the corners (i did this with my crappy older DT wallet)

Step 17: Update

Picture of Update

I added a keyholder and a pen onto my wallet. So, here's how to make them
for this you will need;

duct tape
pen refill
xacto knife

Step 18: Key Holder

Picture of Key Holder

place your key on a strip of duct tape.

cut out a triangle a little larger than the key.

place the triangle on the back of another strip of duct tape.

fold over excess duct tape.

stick it onto your wallet, or anywhere you need a keyholder.

Step 19: Pen Holder

Picture of Pen Holder

wrap a small strip, about 3/4 of an inch, of duct tape sticky side out on the pen refill, and do it again with a larger strip, about 1 1/4 of an inch.

cut out a strip of tape exactly as wide as the small roll, and another one a little wider than the long roll.

stick the strips on their corresponding rolls.

stick them right below the card flap on your wallet.

add some duct tape on the end of the refill to give you some grip, and you're done.

is there a simpler and less dangerous way? my dad says the battery may explode!

Cindy02 (author)2013-07-26

This would great for Father's Day, but I don't understand the steps they are really confusing.

jeptguy (author)2012-06-10

I love you. who ever made this. I love you. You're headed somewhere good in life.

Adambowker98 (author)2012-05-24

I would try to do this, but the steps are super extra confusing.

SissyDale23 (author)2012-04-19

U need to be mord explainative in your steps they r fustrating! Is there a video on how to make this?

PerfectPantaloons (author)2011-12-22

I see somebody likes invader Zim

Vangle Simtri (author)2011-06-05

You know, about halfway through this instructable I about died laughing. The titles of the steps, just freaking epic. Though now I have to go back through and reread the intructable.....

Watch the intro credits or 'Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail'.

theranger (author)2011-07-27

what size is the wallet

jake2k3 (author)2006-10-18

??? I don't understand this step. The last one only said (and showed) one set of markings and folds.

supalightnin (author)jake2k32011-06-25

just do the same markings on the other side

AlexTheGreat (author)2008-05-04

I don't know. It seems to have been deleted, not by me though.

colton blake (author)2011-06-18

You should have made the picture further away from the camera

apenjong-31295 (author)2011-03-08

love the holy grail reference.

um that is a invader Zim reference its the Irken symbol

dude, i meant the titles of step 6-12.

i meant: Wi not trei a holiday in sweeden this yer, see the loveli lakes etc.

Nicholas G. (author)2011-03-16

You could just go and buy a snaps.

nave (author)2011-03-06

i just made a packing tape wallet. see through wallet ftw.

mushroom1225 (author)2011-02-23

Can you PLEASE be more descriptive, don't mean to be mean, but can you make more detailed instructions and better pictures because it's REALLY hard to understand. Anyways, GREAT wallet; it looks A M A Z I N G ! Only if I could make it...

Ganoderma (author)2011-02-22

Awesome, made my own duct tape wallet based on this instructable :)

I used some scrap velcro I had laying around rather then 9V clips though. (I cheated and sowed the pieces into place, no other way to keep them in place properly)

Jack_the_cracker (author)2011-02-18

dude can you please put in the dimensions for this?

vampierwolf (author)2011-01-29

isn't that the invader zim symbol on the inside pocket?

hegemann44 (author)2011-01-27

yeah i think you are

jweirs (author)2011-01-23

didnt realize you were quoting monty python until step 11

tyty400 (author)2010-11-30

the drivers license

SabooZX (author)2010-07-19

Why Is There Not A "Step 12"?

Meganoki (author)SabooZX2010-08-04

because instrubtalbes at least makes a person have one step that has nothing on it because if they do have something on it the only way you'll be able to see it is if you are a member.

wolf555hound (author)2009-01-15

instead of a 9 volt bettery, could we use the rivet in the connecter? this

jetelite (author)wolf555hound2010-04-08

that is true thank you

DrCoolSanta (author)wolf555hound2009-01-28

wolf555hound (author)DrCoolSanta2009-01-28

good, cause I'd probably kill myself opening a 9V... i haveways

DrCoolSanta (author)wolf555hound2009-03-24

Not exactly. I have never seen a 9V battery which opens into the chemicals, only more cells. Otherwise, I guess itsn not that harmful, our teachers had us cut through cells to study the contents. And we didn't have any gloves or anything around.

xilefakamot (author)DrCoolSanta2009-08-25

I wouldn't just to be safe - what happened to me was probably a freak accident or something. (It exploded in my face)

wolf555hound (author)xilefakamot2009-08-29

lol.. I never even tried to open one. Just used the connector in a little project of mine.

DrCoolSanta (author)wolf555hound2009-09-16

Hmm pretty wierd, an accident indeed. Like I said, when we were in grade 6 or 7, we were studying about cells and batteries, and we were studying different apparatus introduced by different scientists. We had opened those cells that had a cardboard covering and we probably even touched the acid and stuff inside, it really didn't explode. And I have in the past opened up 9V batteries to use the clip thingy to connect wires to 9V batteries. Those cells even have connecters which are useful for certain purposes.

xilefakamot (author)DrCoolSanta2009-09-16

I think I might have accidentally pierced a cell or made a spark or something

Coggz (author)troyqaz2009-09-18

magnets near credit cards!!! BAD idea as they have a magnetic stripe which could be wiped by strong magnets (or close magnets) not just credit cards either, many cards have black/brown stripe down the back so beware! nice 'ible btw

DevCoder (author)Coggz2010-04-04

Magnets don't do this, see Mythbusters (

zoombeh (author)troyqaz2010-01-12

magnets shred your cards magnets strips as posted SEVERAL times

xilefakamot (author)troyqaz2009-08-25

I really wish I'd seen this earlier after the battery EXPLODED IN MY FACE!! I checked the warnings and everything - no 'do not pierce/take apart/dismantle' so I thought it'd be safe... DO NOT USE THE BATTERY!!

Milesla (author)2010-01-12

Instead of a battery just use some clip button things or snaps or whatever theyre called, batterys will explode if the chemicals mix wrong

zoombeh (author)2010-01-12

it probably doesent matter now, but just for the record:
the last one shows 2 sets of markings, on the right their lost in the light but the whole piece has those marking on the left and right end.

zoombeh (author)2010-01-12

taking apart a batter= bad
taking apart a comlpletely dead one = cant short it :P
taking apart one know what it has inside (not all of em have  4A's) = kinda ok
using the clips from a "mains supply to 9v" adapter = allot better
having a bundle of almost (aready used some) 100 of those cables (just the cables:P) = win
oh and btw, i just counted, i still have 90 (well 89 now) of those ~25cm (5inch) cables
(sorry for bragging but it solves all the battery trroubles)

Hunter O. (author)2009-12-04

I made something like this after i swa this. I didn't look at the steps, and i flipped the sides that the pocket is on. Good key holder idea too

Furloy (author)2009-10-13

do you need the rivets?
