Introduction: Three Bolt Action Delights (must See)

Picture of Three Bolt Action Delights (must See)
hey guys ! i just wanted to show you guys my two latest creations, both bolt action, in comparison with the original knex bolt action rifle, the zkar (modded to my preferences). we have a shooting demonstration of all three, and we have a detailed explanation video for each of the two guns. the guns are the S1 and the TDAC. here is the short video, the firing demo (older, longer version):

here is the newer, shorter firing demo video:
so you can tell by my name that i was planning on quitting both knexing and 'ibling, but after two weeks of not touching my knex at all, and having my time free up drastically due to no more tests this year for me, i started missing building, and set down to build a little. i took out my old zkar mod and was playing with it when i remembered my old unfulfilled goal (2 fails) to make a good removable magazine bullpup bolt-action assault rifle. this goal was motivated by my great disappointment after building knexguy's fn f2000, because it didn't work at all: no trigger, very bad bolt, bad mag, bad evrything...(nothing personal dude)(and btw, in the video i said seleziona's fn f2000... i was wrong. as always, i never remember the authors of the guns i build. excuse me for that). so, like i said, i had set myself a goal to make a working (good, if possible) remov. mag bullpup B/A AR. i had failed twice at this in the past, while trying to stay close (too close) to the fn f2000 design. this time, i decided i'd try to make one from scratch (at the end, i did include some elements from both the f2000 and the zkar), and this time i achieved my goal. i built an amazingly powerful, accurate reliable, comfortable, B/A bullpup AR. i call it the S1 (Sharir 1, to represent the fact that i think it's my best rifle so far and is also my unchallenged primary (EDIT: S2 totally wipes the floor with this)). i present to you the S1:

after finishing the S1, i remembered TD's concept for an auto chambering rifle. basically, that means you have the function of the bolt without a manual bolt, but rather with the wasted energy from the ram after firing the shot. since the ram is much heavier than the bullet, it will never transfer all of it's energy to the bullet. it will only transfer enough energy to get the bullet moving in the same speed as the ram. anyway, physics aside, after knowing this fact, TD thought of a nice way to use some of the wasted energy for chambering the next round. check out his forum topic about it. i realize that in the firing demo video the ram broke after the second shot, but it never happened before that, it was just really bad luck, and it never happened since. anyway, just in case, i taped it thicker this time. i might make another firing demo only for this one, but for now, you'll just have to believe me that it works better than that. it's still not battle worthy because it isn't 100% reliable, but it's a starting point. so, i bring to you the TDAC (TheDunkis Auto-chambering Concept):

also, don't forget to rate, comment and subscribe !!! for more awesomeness (subscribe to TheDunkis as well, if the TDAC got you to subscribe to me)

These are sure some neat guns!

PotatoCoffee (author)2012-08-17

When I looked at the one in the middle I was like... Does it need to be that BAHIG!

Sharir1701 (author)PotatoCoffee2012-08-17

sorry i'm not familiar with the word "bahig". if you mean big, then it's roughly the same size as the zkar or tdac, just about half an inch longer than the zkar, and the length is perfectly suitable for my arm (i'm 14).

tytiger33 (author)2012-06-08

Great guns as always.
DO you have any intentions of posting the S1 or the TDAC?
And I don't mind if you wait awhile before posting them but I would like to see these guns being built and the concepts being built upon.

Sharir1701 (author)tytiger332012-06-08

i might, but it will definitely not be in the next week. the TDAC is not quite finished yet, because it's not 100% reliable and me and Dunkis are gonna try making it better, and the barrel area is too complicated anyway for you to build off the video only, but the S1 really is a very simple build, and i'll definitely post at least a few more pictures on the S1 for it to be easier to build. not sure if i'll post it though.
anyway, thanks !

tytiger33 (author)Sharir17012012-06-09

I would still like an ible for these guns when they are done.

Sharir1701 (author)tytiger332012-06-10

maybe... i'm pretty sure i'll wait for the vacation to make the 'ibles though. mine starts on june 20th, so i probably won't be posting before the 22nd.

tytiger33 (author)Sharir17012012-06-24

So have you decided what to do?

Sharir1701 (author)tytiger332012-06-24

yes. i'll be posting only the S1. the tdac isn't good enough and it's broken. i don't feel like fixing it is the main problem, but it just wasn't good enough, like i said. so this video is the only thing you're gonna see of it. but on a happier note, check out my S2... it's better than both, if you ask me...

tytiger33 (author)Sharir17012012-06-27

Thanks I hope to see the S1 soon!

Sharir1701 (author)tytiger332012-06-27

uhmm... i'm actually not so sure i'll be posting it. i'm working on 2 very new amazing things, both of which are very high potential semi autos. come on, couldn't you build it from the video and pictures? it's very simple.

tytiger33 (author)Sharir17012012-06-28

If you post some more pictures I could make it.

Sharir1701 (author)tytiger332012-07-25

the S1 is posted.

tytiger33 (author)Sharir17012012-07-25

I saw. Thank you.

Sharir1701 (author)tytiger332012-07-25

you planning on building it?

tytiger33 (author)Sharir17012012-07-26

Done sept for the mag. And the handle is a little small.

Sharir1701 (author)tytiger332012-07-26

cool. what do you mean? is it too short? if so you can always make the bottom part longer, you know. also, i'd like to see a few pics of your's, if that's not a hassle. btw, did you check out my new S3 'ible? i want to get as much feedback as possible on it...

tytiger33 (author)Sharir17012012-07-28

It's just the way it is made. The stock way digs into my hand and wrist. The moded way just removes the yellow and green connector from the front and the bendy rod fro inside the handle. That makes it much more comfortable to me.

Sharir1701 (author)tytiger332012-07-28

i don't understand what you mean by that first sentence about the stock. so basically you're saying you removed that layered from inside the handle that sticks out on it's front? i think that's what makes the handle comfortable, but if you prefer it that way... also, like i said, a pic or two would be nice. and once again, S3...

tytiger33 (author)Sharir17012012-07-30

Sorry I meant to say handle not stock.

tytiger33 (author)Sharir17012012-06-10

Inventor X (author)2012-07-12

Some internal pics would be nice :}

Sharir1701 (author)Inventor X2012-07-25

the S1 is posted.

Sharir1701 (author)Inventor X2012-07-13

of what? i'm definitely not posting my zkar mods... nothing interesting there... the S1 will be posted shortly, which you could have known by reading the comments below, and my TDAC isn't gonna be posted, for two simple reasons: 1. it's not good enough yet, and i don't think that concept has much war potential anyway. i'm working on something new now btw (removable mag and removable pin-case (you'll see what i mean soon enough), true trigger operated semi auto), so keep updated in a week or two. 2. i took it apart, because of said reasons, and because i needed the parts.

so, in conclusion, watch out for my S1 and new project soon, and don't raise your hopes up about the TDAC... not from me, anyway (TD might still be working on it, though i doubt it...)

Oblivitus (author)2012-06-08

The auto-chambering thing is very cool, I'd like to see some close up photos of the mech. That's a good step forward for battle-viable magazines.

TheRacker (author)Oblivitus2012-06-13

Battle viable magazines? Like ones that are completely closed? I don't understand.

OT: Nice job! They all look really nice, one of the few decent things I have seen on here recently. Buy why not use my zkar trigger? No practical reason not to, it beats zak's in every way.

Oblivitus (author)TheRacker2012-06-14

I just basically meant that it's a step forward for magazines that are used in battle. As of right now I think that turrets are better in battle.

Sharir1701 (author)Oblivitus2012-06-23

first off, i assume you are talking about my S1 mag? i don't see how it's any better than my SSM (mag used in my SABR v2, m17s and REMPAR). sure, the new way to attach it to the gun is nice, but the magazine is very much like the SSM (internal pusher, 10 rounds, bullet stop). only thing different is the ramp, but the SSM didn't need a ramp just because it wasn't for bolt actions. this isn't really too new for magazines. it's a nice slick design that i really like, but i disagree that it is a step forward for battle-viable magazines. btw, i also disagree that turrets are better in battle. they take a much longer time to load, they're much bigger and heavier, they're (mostly) undetachable, and i never found them very accurate. all rod ammo magazines except for bolt actions are bad, yes. but connector ammo magazines are good, because the bullets have no slits and therefor have very small friction with the other bullets. also, rod ammo magazines that are for bolt actions are very good, much better than turrets (once again, IMO). have you ever built the zkar (or any other bolt action)?

Oblivitus (author)Sharir17012012-06-24

Interlocking on standard mag guns causes their range to be worse than turrets. I can't remember if there were any other concerns that I had but maybe "battle-viable magazines" was a stupid comment. I think your design is probably at least as good as a turret now actually.

Sharir1701 (author)Oblivitus2012-06-24

once again i say this: have you ever built the zkar or any other bolt action? and also, interlocking occurs ONLY on rod ammo magazines that aren't for bolt actions. few people today use interlocking magazines, so that's just not true. and i still think magazines are better than turrets for the reasons i noted in my last comment.

Oblivitus (author)Sharir17012012-06-24

All right. Nope, I haven't built any bolt-action before. I honestly haven't built any mag guns in a couple years so maybe my opinion is outdated.

Sharir1701 (author)Oblivitus2012-06-24

ok dude, you gotta build a bolt action... it's much better than a turret gun. if you want, i'm soon posting a really compact really nice and strong bolt action pistol. i bet it beats any turret gun. anyway, it's definitely better because it's so tiny. i've a video 'ible on it. check it out.

Oblivitus (author)Sharir17012012-06-25

I'll look at it but I won't have the parts to build it for a long time.

Sharir1701 (author)TheRacker2012-06-23

sorry for late answer, but better late than never. anyway, thanks a lot ! and about your trigger, i don't really like it, idk why. i just like the original zkar trigger better. the main thing i liked better was the placement of the trigger. the original zkar trigger is placed in like the perfect position for you to pull it, and your's is (in my opinion) a little less comfortable. i never had any problem with the zkar trigger (without taping it), although i put many bands on the ram (i think 3 #64s), despite what many people said. i did use a variation of your trigger on a little b/a pistol i built a little while back (6+- months) that i might be posting soon. for that gun it really is good, and if i post it, i'll give you credit for the concept. btw, i tried many other types of triggers for that gun, but none worked except for a variation of your's, because the gun is built densely and compactly. you'll see...

TheRacker (author)Sharir17012012-06-23

Ok, that sounds like a good reason for you then. Sorry if I came off as whiny about it, lol. Just was curious as to why.

Sharir1701 (author)TheRacker2012-06-24

no, no, not at all. it's ok. btw, were you talking about my zkar or my tdac?

TheRacker (author)Sharir17012012-06-24

nvm about the tdac, lol just looked at the ible again.

TheRacker (author)Sharir17012012-06-24

zkar. Which one is the tdac?

TheDunkis (author)2012-06-07

Awesome, I'm glad my concept does work! Quick recommendation, you need to shorten your videos a lot and just get to the point. You can add extra details in threads or ibles you post. Videos should get the main points down and then demo the gun. Otherwise people won't watch the entire thing and lose interest. As such, I didn't view the entire videos myself. >_<

Anywho, this is the only reason I don't care for bullpup bolt actions, you'll notice in your picture yours is actually longer than the ZKAR. It's also more uncomfortable to most people to have the center of gravity far back and straining your hand, and then needing to reach further back to grab the bolt handle. It's still something nice to show off to be able to make a good bullpup weapon. Do you think you could get pictures of your removable magazine mech?

And as far as my concept, I think I'll try to get it one more go. I do want to compact it and make it 100% reliable. I think if we focus on the ramp more, we could figure out that perfect balance. I also have some other ideas floating in my head on how to improve the reliability. I'll PM you the details.

Sharir1701 (author)TheDunkis2012-06-08

yeah, i know, but they always come out too long. i'll try to shorten them down next time.

about my S1, it's only an inch longer than the zkar, the center of the gravity is right above where the mag lock/release is (that vertical wall connected to the back of the handle), and the gun itself is also very lightweight, so it's very comfortable, doesn't strain your hand at all. and lastly, i agree that the bolt handle is a little too far back, but it's still comfortable and you get used to it really quickly. i could have just made the gun not bullpup, but then it would be a zkar with a removable magazine, and i wanted to design my own gun, along with the fact that i really like bullpups. anyway, yes, it's not a ROF weapon if that's what you're getting at, but it's extremely strong and has a higher range than the zkar, and it's also very accurate, so it's extremely good for war, despite all these. on another note, the pictures you want... you want to see the lock/release system? mag walls? insides of the magazine? what?

ok cool. i have an idea about your series of contests by the way... i'll PM it to you later.

TheDunkis (author)Sharir17012012-06-08

Point is, for the sake of making a bullpup, it's nice, but for an actual weapon, there's not much more reason to use it over a bolt action with the magazine in front. But yeah, basically I'd like to see, seeing how it is your strongest, if we could simply combine your S1's internals with my concept.

Sharir1701 (author)TheDunkis2012-06-08

i agree (in knex; in real guns there is much helpfulness about it, but nvm), but i have a certain liking for bullpups, and also i built it over the ruins of the fn f2000, so i still had a bullpup image in my head anyway.

it's my best, only just slightly better than the zkar, because of the removable magazine and better comfort (IMO). the strength is round about the same and so is the accuracy.

having a regular pull back pin without a bolt (your concept) in the very back of the gun would actually make it uncomfortable, so i would rather actually use it on a kind of zkar for that matter, like i did on my TDAC.

TheDunkis (author)Sharir17012012-06-08

I know plenty about why it's excellent for real guns. The problem is that we're worried about different physics with K'nex guns. We worry about range, thus less barrel is useful. However, it's uncomfortable to have very little in front of the handle and a lot behind the barrel. The only real good use for a bullpup format would be for repeating slingshots, then they're excellent.

And that's what I meant. I only wanted to look at the internals and then put it into a standard gun if possible. But it's not the end of the world if I'll have to design from scratch.

Sharir1701 (author)TheDunkis2012-06-08

i agree that in knex the bullpup setup isn't beneficial, but i like bullpups, and it doesn't bother me there's little in front of the handle and all that. nevermind... let's drop this subject. it all comes down to weather or not you like bullpups.

so you want me to remove one panel to show you? that's what you mean? sure. it really is a simple design though. if you haven't already, check out the PM i sent you. i'm really eager about this idea i have. i'm not gonna start on it today coz it's late here (israel) and i'm tired, but i will tomorrow. i have the whole saturday for it.
