unemployment burger

 by Jakob
The unemployment burger is something that just happened when I was unemployed. It's a cheap and tasty version of a hamburger when to make ends meat.

Add 1/2 pound of ground sirloin with three slices bacon and this would be awesome! Lol

No wonder you don't have any money for burger. You spent it all on green olives, premium buns, ham and cheddar cheese. And what's that peaches and pimentos mix there? I bought a jar of green olives recently. Not exactly cheap, and not a necessity.... hahahahahahahahahaha I bet it would be good if you mixed a scrambled egg into the potato mixture, topped with ketchup. going to try the hash browns.

This is awesome!! I wish I had known about the unemployment burger when I was unemployed. I asked the maid to throw in a little curry powder and some cheese along with the pepper. Its mighty tastey and so quick to make. Thank you!

Maybe he is talking about his mom or girlfriend/wife?

Unemployed and Maid..... Must be nice to go from unemployed to now having a maid. Im thinking when you were unemployed you weren't exactly poor either lol. Nice instructable though Looks tasty. When I am poor and in serious need of food I eat potted meat sandwiches. 33 cents a can or 3 for a dollar at the dollar store. Each can will make 2 or three sandwiches. Not the best tasting stuff though. I wonder if there are any instructables on here using potted meat lol.

Or, if you add butter as the main condiment a rather intriguing "American" Chip Butty! Mmmmmm Chip Butties.... *salivates* Add a tiny bit of Marmite and I'm there!

My unemployed mate used to survive on rice & peas and stock-cubes, then rice and stock-cubes, then just rice...
Wolf Seril in reply to lemonieNov 8, 2007. 2:43 PM
At least they never had to survive on just stock cubes :)

This isn't too far off from kartoffelpuffers (German Potato Pancakes). Now I'm hungry for them with a little pancake syrup.
Digital_Anarchy says: Jul 10, 2007. 11:34 AM
this would be awsome with a fried egg and a rasher or two of bacon inside a (english) muffin. you could have mushrooms and tomatoes to make an english breakfast burger. anglo-american perfection.

Duuuude! This is very similar to the coolest hashbrown recipe of all time. You've got cheese there in picture 1. Grate the cheese, and mix in it with the potato and flour mixture. In step 6, you've got to have the meanest frying-skillz (or a non-stick pan). And then you've got the tastiest hashbrown you've ever tasted in your life.
klee27x says: May 12, 2006. 7:23 PM
If it was just a big hash brown, would there be this many posts? It's a big hash brown with an awesome title.
static in reply to klee27xMay 22, 2007. 5:11 PM
My first thought was similar to the seasoned hash brown patties/ potato cakes in the supermarket frozen foods section. Those are relatively inexpensive, but maybe a few cents can be saved from making them from scratch. IMO that would depend on the cost of the packaged seasoning used here, what has to be the most expensive ingredient. Anyway a good recipe presentation.

Think we/I can use sweet potatoes on this? I'm a sucker for sweet potatoes. =)

Just made these with optional egg addition and ground chipotle pepper for seasoning. Worked great! Mmmm, potatoes for dinner!
VolcanoUSA says: Feb 8, 2006. 10:48 PM
Add a little egg (helps hold the potatoes together) and you've got a latke sandwich..good stuff!
