This should be called "How to run battery powered toys off of USB power" or something.

yeah that's pretty much what it is

True, but this method can be applied to so many different items that it would be beneficial to encourage people to find it without specifically looking for "plasma globe."

This works, but it isn't a very good idea. I noticed that you left the plasma ball's citrcuit board sitting on top of the battery holder. This is not a good idea because if you are grounded (and you are unless you are wearing incredibly thick rubber boots and gloves), then the high voltage output to the globe could arc over to your finger if you put it close. Put this in a case or something.

It actually originally ran on 6 volts if the battery case is wired like it looks (1.5V x 4 batteries).

But despite what it is *powered* from, the plasma globe portion itself is a high-voltage device, and can indeed be dangerous to touch the portion of the circuits that power the wire going to the center of the globe. There is not much (if any notable) current flowing there, but the voltage itself should be several thousand volts.

So be careful--while it might not kill you, it could hurt. ;)

These things aren't deadly, I guess the reason that you touched the circuit board without being shocked is either luck, or that the plasma globe was drawing so much power. But it still doesn't make sense... Maybe you just didn't feel it because of the skin effect?

Don't get your hopes up Xellers, I've looked in four wal-marts and one target in the last year without finding any battery powered plasma globes at any price.

"Ohio" = "you how"?

Idaho ld on to this nugget of information- the top left spring contact in the battery box is the negative = black wire, the top right flat contact is the positive = red wire. If you trace the wires that were Oregonally connected to those contacts you won't have to risk connecting the power backwards and potentially damaging your device, and that's the Maine thing (though I have a Tennesee to ignore my own advice here).

Nothing sounds like "South Carolina" enough to work into this pun
