I don't see where the reflector is bonded to the USB's chassis ground... is that necessary?

This guy with the strainer dish isn't kidding, and you'll be shocked when you see how simple other dishes or cantenna ideas can be used as well with the same adaptor. What works GREAT for me, even as I type this teply is the same Belkin Wireless USB adaptor stuck through a slot in the side of a Maxwell house coffee can. If you can't pull off doing this cut work, use a Pringles can. It works great as well for picking up a distant remote network which otherwise wouldn't even show up on the network site monitor. Ofcourse, by trial and error you have to find the remote source by pointing your "radar" around until the signal shows up loud and clear. You're basically concentrating the outgoing microwaves from your adaptor into sort of a flaslight beam towards the source which sees their signal as well due to how antennas work, BOTH WAYS. That is, antenna reception boosters also boost transmission power.
