This lesson outlines the toolpath creation process, focusing on the 2D machining of vectors.

Sawmill Tutorial

  • New Model – Width=635 mm (25”), Height=230 mm (9”)
  • Import Sawmill.eps
  • F9 (centre in page)
  • Transform Vectors – Uncheck Link, Width=610mm (24”), Height=200mm (8”)
  • Ungroup vectors
  • Group text
  • Area Clearance – between text and inside border
    • Finish Depth=0.3” (8mm)
    • Tools:
      • 12mm end mill (raster strategy) (½”)
      • 6mm end mill (offset strategy) (¼”)1.5mm end mill (offset strategy) (1/16”)
  • Material – Thickness=12mm (0.5”), Material Z Zero=top, Top Offset=0
    • Calculate and Close
  • Simulate
  • Bevel Carving – Sawmill text
    • Finish Depth=7mm (0.25”)
    • Tool=V-Bit 32mm, 130º (V-Bit 1.25”, 130º)
    • Calculate and Close
  • Simulate

  • Text Tool – “Reception” – Arial, Size=25mm (1”), Spacing=20%
  • Center Horizontally (select text 1st, then border)
  • Up or down arrows to center vertically

  • Select the Simulation branch in the Project Tree
  • In the Rendering section below, and choose Light Oak (H) as the Material to see what the toolpath will look like once cut into the material
