Light Bulb Lesson Project

For the Light Bulb lesson we are going to make a Pipe Lamp using a single light bulb socket, and a power plug. My version is just an example of how to make one, and you are free to get creative and make whatever pipe lamp you wish. My only requirement for this project is that you wire up a light bulb such that it is able to turn on.

If you want to follow along exactly with this project at home you will need:

Lamp Parts and Embellishments:

(x1) Brass push-thru switch socket (or similar)
(x1) Power plug
(x1) 12' fabric cord
(x1) Large decorative light bulb (or similar)
(x1) 3/4 brass faucet
(x3) 1/2 x 1/2 brass barb

For the base:

(x3) 3/4" T-connector
(x4) 3/4" L-connectors
(x2) 6" pipe
(x4) 5" pipe

For the center column:

(x2) 3/4" - 1/2" T-connector (where the base of the T is 1/2")
(x1) 3/4" threaded coupling
(x1) 3/4" x 4' threaded pipe

For the top:

(x1) 3/4" T-connector
(x1) 3/4" - 1/2" L-connector
(x3) 3/4" x 6" pipes

LED Lesson Project

In the LED lesson we are going to make an LED flashlight. Aside from LEDs, this project will incorporate a resistor, a switch, and a little bit of soldering.

For this lesson you will need:

(x1) 1.25" x 6" mailing tube with end caps (or similar)
(x1) 8mm bright white LED
(x1) 10ohm / 1/2 Watt resistor (or appropriate for your LED and power supply)
(x1) LED reflector
(x1) 26.8mm flashlight lens (or similar)
(x1) Pushbutton toggle switch
(x1) 3 x AAA cylindrical battery holder
(x3) AAA batteries

This project is just a suggestion, and you are free to post anything made using LEDs. My only requirement is that you make something new (to you) for this class using LEDs.

LED Strip and EL Wire Project

For the LED Strip and EL Wire lessons we will begin making a trash can that looks a barrel of glowing radioactive waste. In this lesson we will add a multi-color analog LED strip, and in the next lesson, we will add a glowing EL panel decal.

For this project you will need:
(x1) Adhesive-backed RGB multi-color LED strip
(x1) RF wireless color remote
(x1) RF wireless monochromatic remote
(x1) 20cm x 15cm EL panel
(x1) EL wire Inverter
(x1) 12V / 2A power supply
(x1) Power adapter splitter
(x1) Power jack
(x1) Power plug
(x1) 12" x 12" adhesive vinyl sheet
(x1) Black trash bin
(x1) Roll of black tape

If you are not interested in making a glowing radioactive trash bin, you may post a picture of any new (to you) project that you have made using multi-color analog LED strip.
