    Binaural Listening Device

I know some systems (based on my research back in 2012) they used a microphone array to pick up the audio. The user would sit in front of 2 or multiple speakers that are equally space. A filter algorithm would be used to to prevent the sound sources from distorting each other and to provide the 3D audio. Unfortunately these algorithms and setups would need to be calibrated and modified for the individual as everyone perceives sounds differently. The benefit of the method I shown above is that the headphones eliminate the need for filters as the brain to filter and localise the sounds itself.Your brain will tell you where the sound came from based on how quick each ear received the sound. So if something to your right made a noise your right ear will pick up the sound before your left so your brain knows it came from the right. What is interesting if you closed your eyes you can't localise sound if it is directly in front or behind you. I tried this out while testing my system with people and a lot of them told me when I made the sound behind the dummy head they thought the sound originated in front of them.

    Binaural Listening Device

Hi,The total cost of the chair was £245.85. I build this back in 2012 for my Masters degree. I am looking into building another one again and use better equipment. I could save money on the wireless system by buying the individual components as back then I knew very little about sound systems and electronics and I decided to go for the easy option which was expensive.I would also avoid polystyrene as while it absorbed sound (which is what you want) you couldn't replace the ears easily as the screws ruined the material. I want to develop my own telepresence robots and I am doing freelance work to help fund it. Kind regardsAndy
