No, Jerry Woodall copied this instructable, believe it or not. I e-mailed it to him, when I discovered that eutectic gallium worked better than pure gallium.

Great idea by the way, can see it really taking off due to the common materials and reusable gallium but for what reasons is eutectic gallium better? Also do you know the creator of the portable generator unit that uses your method with monster can sized cartridges?

The reason it is better is because it is liquid at room temperature while pure gallium has to be heated to 50C. It also wets aluminum just like mercury spreading all over the surface (see the last pictures in the Instructable). This is perfect for portable generator because the hydrogen production can be controlled by controlling water mixing with the activated aluminum. The gallium can be easily recovered from the alumina by changing the Ph of the medium (the eutectic gallium drops to the bottom). No I don't know the creator of the portable generator unit. Do you?

Ah that's interesting, didn't even consider that aspect. All i heard about the generator was it was developed by a university.
