Markwrig, is there anyone doing image processing on the RasPi after captureing an image? I read that there is a version of the Python language that does image processing but can't find it now.

About waffle makers: Many years ago, a few days after Christmas, I spotted a small white waffle maker on sale at Walmart for $4. It still works perfectly! This just points out that waffle makers are very simple appliances with less parts than a toaster. They should last many years and need not cost much. Just don't submerge them in water to clean.

The reason you don't feel the discharge is because the current generated in the plasma ball is very high frequency AC and this is subject to the Skin Effect. AC tends to travel on the outside of conductors. That is one reason why stranded wire is prefered for AC. It has more surface area than solid wire.
