Amazing factsheet! Keep it up! I love the fact that this is for people like mee in the UK! I am chemist, or at least I pretend to be. From what I think, perhaps the last time the iron was too hot and transferred some of the acetate sheet to the etching? Verdigris can occur when the copper is in contact with acetic acid. A little bit of acetate could have been in contact with moisture from the air and then come in contact with the copper.I presuppose that all came from the last attempt, where you were quite confident in the process and wanted to do things a little quicker maybe? I hope this helps!
