I'd also cosider a satellite tracker like the DeLorme inReach or SPOT devices. Not only can friends & family monitor your progress, you can contact the emergency services if needed instantly (when outside of cellphone coverage) and not rely on someone to realise you are late! You can also inform people of your progress via a text or email (the DeLorme) explaining why, say, you are going to be late and for them not to worry. Plus they are cheaper than satellite phones to buy & use!!
Great 'ible - very inspiring. You said you get a great sound - do you believe that it was more luck than judgement? Also, over time the wood will dry, possibly crack and leak air. This has the big possibility of altering the sound dramatically - is that a concern?Whilst the wood is "wet" it is dull, but as it dries it will take on a timbre that I feel might colour the sound...Even so, a great job! I love it!
Fantastic project just one thought - you could sandwich a piece of two-way polycarbonate mirror between the LCD screen and the touch screen and have a further, slightly more conventional use for the project ! :) especially if you ever power it off - it won't just be a black "box" on the wall.... just a thought....
