    Yes, absolutely. The circuit can easily be miniaturized however to achieve the output of 5v needed to charge a mobile device, you would need an antenae that is quite large.

    This is an excellent question. Theoretically, I believe it does; and experimentally, the results are the same. In reference to your side note, various interferometry experiments can be performed with this device. I implore you to put one together, test your hypothesis and share your findings.P.S. RIP, photons.

    My experimental data has shown me that light is a wave and therefore there must be a medium through which ot passes. For anyone studying these topics, having a lab interferometer is certainly a worthwhile venture.

    In the case of this device, energy is transmitted radially, out in all direction, since, the current is grounded wirelessly through the air. If, however, a path of lesser resistance is introduced (i.e. placing an object near the coil) then the current will focus to this point taking a new path of least resistance which can be demonstrated by a spark bridging the gap to that object. (I have callouses on my fingers to prove it!)

    Yes, it absolutely does. The windings of the primary coil couple with that of the secondary coil acting as a transformer which is what creates the high voltage discharge.     Due to the power condition feature of the capacitors, output is typically normalized. The highest output I have produced o this scale, though, has been in the area of 10-12V, 10-20mA.

    I see how it can be a bit confusing, but the inefficiency is in the transistor not in the circuit and coil.

    Whoa, cool!

    To power an LED wirelessly, simply attach a resistor to the anode leg of your LED and place it within the field of your coil. What we are doing is creating a path of least resistance. Without the resistor, both legs receive the same input from the coil. By adding a resistor to one side, we make the cathode leg the path of least resistance. The current then travels through the diode of the LED and out the other side where the high voltage current is grounded by the air alone on the other leg of your LED.Almost any LED will do, but you can experiment with different resistances to optimize based on your setup. You can then move it around to find where it lights up the brightest signifying the strongest part of your Tesla Coil's EM field.

    This circuit can be powered with an ordinary 12V AC adapter.

    Interesting question! I wouldn't expect to power a house with one big coil, but rather many smaller coils placed throughout the home in convenient locations. But speculatively, it would have to be quite large.

    This is where things get interesting. The fluorescent tubes are being powered not by 120v but a very high voltage of 1-10kV!

    The TIP41C, caps and resistor and jumper wires are pretty inexpensive, yes, but the parts for the case, breadboard and coils start to add up a bit, not to mention winding the coils can be very tedious. It important though to have a perfectly wound coil because any gaps in windings or even the slightest overlap will cause the coil to malfunction. I also found that by adding a case it allows the circuit to be isolated from sensitive electronics and flammable materials and it also adds a nice platform for experimentation. Thanks for reading the article. Give this project a try, its a lot of fun!

    Sure, there are lots of Tesla Coil designs and Exciter circuits out there, but this is by far the simplest and easiest one I have ever built! Give it a try and you'll be amazed at how simple it is! A transistor is an amazing little device and is what make computers work. In the case of this circuit, we are building a simple feedback loop that acts as a mini computer to control our coil.

    Good question! A transistor is a switch controlled by an electrical signal. So, in the case of the wall switch- YOU are the computer! Thanks for checking out my instructable!

    Trial and error. Also, keep in mind that you may need to add weight to your magnet in order to get it to stabilize properly.

    Thank you so much for the valuable feedback. Sometimes I miss a thing or two so I really appreciate you pointing that out form me. I have added the missing part specifications which I used. This is the simplest and easiest Tesla Coil circuit design I have ever built and it works great! As you pointed out, some of the parts can are interchangeable so feel free to make any adjustments as you see fit.

    My pleasure. It will take a bit more than adding a few turns to the coil for a number of reasons. Primarily though, the scale is not linear and the size of your circuit/coil increases exponentially with reference to the weight which is levitated.

    Thanks for checking out my project. A lot of these questions are covered in the Instructable but I will answer them briefly for you.The ceramic capacitors used are 104s and their purpose is to polarize the charge. Electrolytic caps are 50v rated and are used to hold the charge in order to provide a usable current. In this example the ground is connected to the case, and thus grounded through the users hand. Scaling this up for that purpose will require a more significant antennae, ground and wiring up multiple circuits in series which is covered in more detail in the article.Let me know if you have any other questions and be sure to post your project pictures here when you're done for everyone to see!

    Thanks for checking out the project. Great question. Adding capacitors will only increase the capacity (mAh). If you want to increase voltage you can build multiple circuits in parallel and make sure your antennae is as tall as possible.

    I love your enthusiasm and thanks!Is it possible, yes! This type of electromagnetic levitation suspends an object from above however, a floating platform requires mechanisms in order to maintain balance. Next, you'll need to do the math; you will need to scale up somewhere around 2,000 times to support your weight.Is it safe? No. Scaling it up to that size will require electromagnets powerful enough to crush your skull like and egg and electrical currents that will melt you from the inside out.

    What we find is that solar arrays themselves act as mirrors so, when used in the configuration proposed, they can result in a far greater efficiency with respect to area.

    Glad to hear you are working on this exciting project. The gap was calculated from edge to edge of each v-module.To determine the optimal angle, you will find that maximum output voltage occurs when the most reflections can be captured in succession. Therefore tighter angles will yield better results when directly pointed at the sun, yet will require more adjustment; wider angles will require less adjustment but will allow more light to escape.I hope this helps and be sure to post your results for us to see.

    Not at all and this is a very good question. As Faraday and others have demonstrated, magnetic bodies in motion produce an electric charge. If you've ever used a magnetic compass, you know that the earth, along with orbiting bodies, are magnetic with a north and south pole. These moving bodies induce a charge in our atmosphere.     This hypothetical appears to be in agreement with my data. Thanks for sharing.In regards to angle, yes, you are correct to assume optimal angle to the source was maintained and the data relationship to the hypothesis degrades correlatively.

    Eureka! You got it working! You now have proof of concept. Now it's time to increase your current. First, try extending the antennae all the way to the highest point you can find (try your roof). Then connect a ground lead to the junction between your output terminals (between the two electrolytic caps in series) and run that to a piece of steel rod pressed into the dirt. Once that is complete, you can optimize it even further! Now, with your antennae and ground set up start wiring in more circuits. Wire them in series, parallel or both according to your needs. Put all of the components on the same circuit board for a supersized version.Thanks for checking out my 'ible! I hope this helps!
