Doing a by pass on most common models of laser printers is just for diagnostics and normally you can't get them to print while in these modes. That being said the next issue is getting the image through the fuser without being smudged. If you want to transfer if from paper to wood using heat, you have to remember that toner is bonded at a temp of 300+ degrees. So melting the toner and getting a clean transfer will require some serious heat and pressure.
