I believe I have an answer.1)it is technically true you can do this, but I believe one of the main reasons is to have the ingredients harmonically charged.2) it is kind of true, but it is not necessary. 3)it is explained that an elixer requires all three parts; Mercury, Sulfur, and salt. It is supposed to mimic life.4)You can. It won't make a difference, as the ash (or Salt) has no effect other than stabilize the elixer. You can also get potassium carbonate (K2CO3). It is literally the same thing. But according to most sources, it's better for beginners to make them all at once.
