Hi! I just found your Instructable about fireflies. I'd like to build a unit like this but unfortunately my skills are not up to the programming part. Would it be possible to get a programmed chip? I'm a retired EE who got into sales after only two years in the lab at Univac. That was in 1968! Your Instructable is one of the best I've ever seen. I hope to see more of your work. Thanks in advance, Eccentrictinker
Really great instructable but I too have noooo idea about programming if there is anything you could do for a instruction on programming or any reference you would suggest?
I would like to second ET's request! Fantastic project, excellecntly demonstrated... I just have no idea on the programming side of things. Is there a port or breadboard/computer interface? How does that file you offered get out of my hard drive and into the chip? Can't wait to see your next one! Thanks for any help you can give - Rainger
The firefly project looks like a great project for those of us that do not get to enjoy these in nature. I'm currently attempting to order all the parts from Digikey. For the resistors, they have have many subtle differences with the specs. Does anyone have more details specs or actual Digikey numbers for the ones used in this project? Thank you for all of your help. Thanks Dave
Thanks! This has been a real positive experience so far and I can't wait to do my next one, great site!
Also, I don't have a question but I did run into a few issues while putting the jar of firefiles instructable together. Namely an issue where, at a number of points, the structure of the instructable somehow got corrupted, with some steps appearing more than once and other steps disappearing. It happened a couple times and I had to roll back to a earlier version to get some content back more than once (thank god for that feature!).
Anyways, ultimately it got so bad that I wasn't able to reorder steps and have it stick without problems so I ended up rolling back to a version with the most recoverable content and hand copying the content into a newly created instructable object. The old corrupted version is still in my account here http://www.instructables.com/id/E8CPLMOTU4EVYE0REM/ and I left it around in case it would be useful in debugging what's wrong with the system. The most telling thing is to look at the reorder steps interface and see how the steps are numbered by the system.. last I looked it's really a mess (duplicate numbers, out of order, etc). I don't see the wonky numbering exposed anywhere else however.
So yeah, that's all I wanted to say.. let me know if you want me to keep it around or not -- if it's not of use I'd rather delete it than have it appear on a list of unfinished things that I see frequently ;)
I've seen that bug a number of times. Right now, we're in the midst of a database schema re-architecture and are paying special attention to that section of the code. Once we're done, it should be fixed. Maybe by the end of the month? Sorry for any frustration.
