Really nice work!Some thoughts about your Lessons Learned (b):Mach has Soft Limits. I have no experience with this (yet). But I think this might solve the problem that you can't navigate the machine if a limit switch is hit.Maybe this idea can help or at least point you to something useful.
Sure it will. It's about the storage location of the string, not about what you do with it.
If you use the F() function around a string then it will get placed into program memory and replaced by a pointer to that location which is then used to process your text as usual. This will free your memory for variables (SRAM) which is way smaller then program memory.So Serial.print("your text"); needs to change to Serial.print(F("your text"));This trick helped me to avoid upgrading.
