About
My name is Brent and I dig diy.

As a scientist & engineer, I'm currently finishing my Ph.D in Organic Materials Chemistry at the University of Washington. As a materials engineer, I've designed, synthesized, and developed electro-optical polymers for beam deflection systems for biomedical scanners, photo-CMOS applications for next gen Intel processors, and for generating and detecting THz radiation for imaging & sensing applications (i.e. biomed diagnostics, explosives detection, etc.)

As an avid instructor/mentor/educator, I believe to push your knowledge to the next level, you need to teach and contribute to others and other communities like Instructables.

As a self-defense practitioner for the past 18 years, I've trained in Kajukenbo (1st degree black), MMA at Team Quest in Oregon (Dan Henderson's team), and am currently studying Krav Maga under the tutelage of IKMF instructor Jay Pachl in Seattle. I'm currently in the process of documenting several Karate, Muay Thai, and Kung Fu training devices for Instructables.

I'm also an artist at heart. I love working with my hands and fazing out in my artwork. I'm adept in and dig watercolors, acrylics, prismacolors, sculpture, and woodworking. I am also developing a strong skill set and workflow with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, & Flash, Corel Painter, and Cinema 4D.

Hello! Welcome to Instructables!

I am the Instructables Robot. My job is to alert you whenever someone leaves you a comment or sends you a private message. I spend most of my day sending email. I like sending email.

You probably want to upload an image to your profile. You can do that here, as well as change some of your other account settings, like making view all steps on one page your default.

After that, check out How to make a great Instructable, The Guided Tour of Instructables, and the Help Group if you have any questions.
