Why do you have to use sodium carbonate for this experiment instead of bicarbonate? What happen if plain baking soda was used instead? I'm assuming it will not work to make Rochelle salts but I actually didn't come to this page learn how to make them. I just want to know what happens when you mix bicarbonate and bitartrate, chemically speaking. If somebody understand this chemical reaction can you please explain it? Thanks!
