I have a set that run for 12 hours at a time and have done this for 2 years now. They are in an aquarium setting with no noticeable effects to brightness. They will probably go for the general LED life expectancy of 50,000 hours. Or roughly 10-15 years depending on how much they are on.
LED's do get hot and high output LED's do require a heatsink. These specific LED's do get warm but not warm enough to pose a fire risk. I use these and the RGB versions all over my house with no issues.
