I think you may have made a mistake on the Tank Platform Instructable. You said that the gearbox is #70097 but I think the one you used was a #70168. That is the one that has the option of a 114.7:1 gear ratio. Tamiya's product name for that one (the 70168) also matches what the box in your picture for the first step. UbuntuNinja
