Tried this and found that accessing the solder areas where the cable is attached to the circuit board is quite tricky, and in my case it destroyed the unit. Fortunately I had another spare with a broken lead - so the second attempt I simply cut the wires on the old lead inside the case and soldered the new lead to the stub of the old one, taking care to insulate the joins properly with tape (or better still heat shrink sleeves). This made reassembly much simpler. However, take care - after the charger has been unplugged for a few minutes the capacitors remain charged and can give you quite a nasty electrical shock...
