  • How to fix 100% disk usage for Windows 8.1

most of the times mozilla firefox causes 100% disk usages, so if I turn off my browser (using cmd), then that wouldn't be a solution. however I found the following para in somewhere' there are also conditions where windows 8.1 will really use your disk while it is attempting to relocate data off of bad spots on your disk drives.older versions of windows did not do this. windows 8 will attempt to read data from your disk drive even if you have not requested it. It is looking for errors during the read process so it can locate bad sectors before your data is lost. It will read, if it gets a read error, it will read the spot over and over and try to get a clean copy of the data, it will then move the data to a new good spot on the drive and mark the old spot as bad. This process can tak...see more »most of the times mozilla firefox causes 100% disk usages, so if I turn off my browser (using cmd), then that wouldn't be a solution. however I found the following para in somewhere' there are also conditions where windows 8.1 will really use your disk while it is attempting to relocate data off of bad spots on your disk drives.older versions of windows did not do this. windows 8 will attempt to read data from your disk drive even if you have not requested it. It will take much longer on a laptop it the laptop is allowed to sleep. This process is needed because a lot of OEMs do not format and install the os, they just plop a entire OS image on a drive with the assumption that all sectors of the drive are ok. 'and maybe this causes 100% usage many times when no heavy programs are running. can you tell me how to turn off this windows process ? -Thanks

this helped me for now--'1. increase your virtual memory(or page memory) to atleast 4gb , just google it.2. disable automatic defragmentation3. press windows+s search for "services", or control panel->view local services3.1. look for "superfetch", right click properties, startup type make it disable, then go for recovery tab and make all "take no action"3.2. Do the above same step for "windows search" instead of "superfetch"'and do the 3.1 (above) for 'windows modules installer', 'windows management instrumentation', 'windows update' etc which makes pc slower like 'superfetch'. just read every service on the list and be sure about turning off a service will make no harm.

try to do that what helped me for now, read my comment
