About:I'm a figment of my own imagination. ---- To Win the war on Terra Means to END the WORLD. How about a nice game of Chess? ---- I'm chilling, but forgive me for sometimes believing I invented everything.
I apologize for "getting lost" in 2008. For many reasons, not all of which are explainable, it is still, in 2010, much harder to complete And share projects than it used to be for me. External factors include changes in the internet vs. my refusal to waste time accommodating them all.
The Volumetric projector project is no longer recommended as is, and deserves an update using new and modern parts. It may be of interest that Actuality Systems went out of business and sent me an offer to buy them out. They are liquidating their IP assets as Optics For Hire. My projector and a future simplified update of it will remain nearly public domain (non-proprietary) although I am not sure if a license is needed nor whether it should be GPL, MIT, Creative Commons, or what is most appropriate such that I give equal rights to all to use the technology. It is now as simple as almost any large eyeglass lens and a fast display with refresh rate determining the third dimension resolution.
I am of the opinion that Edison's inventions of the Light Bulb, phonorecords, and motion pictures in the 1800s are becoming obsolete, and that it is about time that visual entertainment should be no less than 3D, and have noticed an increase in 3D movie production since I began propagating that opinion. It is obvious that light bulbs are being phased out in favor of durable, low power superbright LEDs and Cold Cathodes (more efficient and durable than Fluorescent).
The Pandora's Box and Predictive Synthesizer are due for updates also, since they are primitive and unnecessarily complicated for 2010. On Jan 1st, recorded sound is obsolete as far as I am concerned, and even SONY is closing its recordable media factory today. (March 15, 2010) Last year, Permutation Synthesis was used to play a song of specified lyric which has never been sung, which is called Viray's Inspiration. I am now involved in building up a band to provide "Real" NEW musical content, to demonstrate numeric synthesis technology.
My advice for the times of the bad economy is Make Stuff, and Make Stuff that Makes Stuff. Money doesn't grow on trees. You can buy food with money, but Food DOES grow on trees! Don't buy a new computer if you can recycle an old one with Free Software. Recharge batteries with solar and wind power. Make stuff to last 2000 years like they did in ancient Rome so that you won't have to waste it. Create, not destroy.
Sorry for the incredibly long delay. That type of LCD screen is not video compatible at all. It accepts serial digital commands and data using SPI protocol which is the same protocol used by digital camera flash cards. I suppose you could think of it as a camera card with a screen that can only hold one picture, but that is not an exact description. That kind of display is only useful for the device it was made for, OR if you can find a datasheet and can program PIC chips you may be able to use it as a display for your own project, but it is probably too slow for games if you are able to write a video-to-SPI converter for it.
I was reading about your hypnosis dream machine and thought that there would also be a cheaper way to make a "light and sound machine". They seem simple enough, instead of having them programmable through the computer, the leds would be independently controlled on the highs and lows in the music you listen to. The whole project would consist of a module you can plug into the head phone jack of any audio/mp3 player which is conveyed to you through light (8 leds, 4 for each eye in some goggles or glasses) and sound. I would like to put something together but I've got more ideas than capability. Check it out if you get a chance. http://www.mindmachines.com/RelaxationSuperstore/Light-Sound-Mind-Catalog/ProteusLightandSoundMachinebyMindplace.html
