    ESP8266 Artnet to DMX

Holy cow - That was fast!I'm so excited. I'm gonna test it out now. I'll let you know how it works for me.Thank you.

Update.... I just tested 2 units together, I actually only updated 1 unit coz the other kept failing OTA. Anyway, 1 unit (updated one) creates the hotspot, the other connects to that (as does my macbook). It works perfectly :) I connected 2 T-Bars with some par cans around my house, average about 30m apart between each T-Bar & macbook. The connection is perfect, every now & then there is a very slight (300ms?) delay. But it's not consistent. I find if Im changing lights one after the other it is instant. There's only a slight delay after the lights have been idle for a while, however it is a very minimal lag. I can certainly live with that. I honestly think you have outdone yourself here. ESP8266 Artnet to DMX

What Im trying to achieve is to have a wireless connection for my 3 different lights bars which are situated in different areas, they will all be controlled over 1 universe. So I built myself a 2nd unit to test, however I just can't seem to get them to work together. I tried to create a network with my macbook pro, but I can't get them to connect to it. I can get one unit to connect to the other if I let one create a hotspot first, then put that hotspot name into SSID & password etc via the web settings page. Unfortunately it doesn't pass the artnet info from that unit to the other. Any idea on how I could possibly link 2 or more units & share the artnet universe? This seems rather interesting: https://github.com/NeoCat/esp8266-Arduino/commit/4108c8dbced7769c75bcbb9ed880f1d3f178bcbe Am I heading in the right direction?

I just tested it with a router and......... it works!!!It would be amazing if we were able to route the packets between them. But for now, this is fantastic!! I really don't know much about the code etc... but I'm gonna search the web high & low for info on routing the packets between the esp modules. If I find anything interesting, I'll share it with you. Perhaps we make this great little unit of yours even more amazing!! Thanks again for the help.

    ESP8266 Artnet to DMX

Awesome!! Something I was thinking about, would it be possible to link 2 or more of these together? Kind of like having one create a hotspot & the others connect to that one. I suppose, almost like a repeater of some sort. Picture this, I'm at at gig & I wanna put a single par can shining up each pillar of the venue (with multiple pillars obviously). If I build 6 of these (one for each par) could they somehow work together?

    ESP8266 Artnet to DMX

I finally got my parts & managed to make it!!I had a bit of difficulty using Arduino, as I have never used it before. I didn't realize that you have to add each part of your sketch individually (eeprom, wifi, node etc...) But once I figured that out, it compiled & uploaded. It works like an absolute charm! The update allowing standalone mode is fantastic. It just instantly connects.....no fuss or hassles. You're an absolute genius!!I look forward to future updates (lcd & saving scenes etc..) The fact that you take the time to share your knowledge with others really shows that you are in a league of your own.Once again, THANK YOU for this amazing instructable. You ROCK!!!

    ESP8266 Artnet to DMX

Thank you so much for this great instructable. Please forgive me if this seems dumb, but would I create a network using the macbook's wifi and connect the ESP to that or would I connect my mac to the ESP which creates it own hotspot, or do I have to first connect my mac to a router, then get router connected the the ESP? Also, I have never used arduino before, can you please tell me what I need to purchase (bare minimum) in order to flash the ESP8266. I'm using QLC+ software (which is great btw) it does support artnet, so I'm really hoping I can get this to work.
