When I made this, I had a bag of LEDs that had been rejected from a project for being the wrong shade of white but were otherwise fine. At this point, you can buy a pretty decent LED strip from IKEA, and I'm sure there are dozens on amazon. I don't want to discourage you from making something, but I can't promise that nothing could go wrong.
