  • How to Create a Culturally and Lingustically inclusive English Classroom

A ton of these ideas are what I believe to be some of the best things to come out of a classroom. I think that an introductory poster is a great icebreaker, a word tree is a collaborative classroom resource, reimagining works are just fanfiction from an academic standpoint, and creative writing prompts are story starters. These are things that I have either seen or experienced and it has made me a better student, and future teacher. This is a wonderful list of classroom resources.

  • English Language for Teachers: Conversational and Academic Language, and Code Switching

I liked the idea it was an innovating and fun way to flip the lesson on to the student's time table. They learn on their own and then bring their questions to class. this allows for them to have the lesson always and for them to always come to the teacher with whatever questions they may have. I like this style of teaching, I may just use it in my future classroom!

    Supporting ELL Students

Your ideas are great, the focus on what areas where ELL students might have a difficult time in a classroom of native language speakers. They look at the areas and criteria where native language speakers are proficient at whatever grade level and encourage an instructor to modify, not necessarily change completely. I think that is what is needed in the classroom, a modification, not a complete change. No one wants to feel left out.

Language, Grammar, and Power: A Crossroads

I really enjoyed how you had the students constantly engaged throughout the entire unit. That is so important. I also really liked how you used the concept of raw writing as a diagnosis of the issues that need to be addressed in a student's writing. That is a low key way to assess them without the stress of an essay. The poster was a good idea, having them use what they have learned in the unit to culminate project comments and have them interact with each other is exactly how to keep students motivated to do better. Positive feedback from their peers is a good incentive for improvement.
