Hi txchx, Arduino and Raspberry Pi are not compatible. You will no be be able to run the included code and make the circuit described above without major changes and a code rewrite. An Arduino Uno clone cost is about one tenth of a Raspberry Pi, so I suggest you just get an Arduino for this project. A Pi would be an overkill.
Hi webbrowan, I really hope so. My goal with this project is to provide a technological solution to this phenomenon. If you want to learn more about such cases you should take a look at http://www.kidsandcars.org/how-kids-get-hurt/heat-stroke/ where they are doing a great job at documenting the cases. Spoiler, most of the tragic cases are about normal parents who had some change in their daily route but automatically followed their usual one or parents who got distracted. Pretty sad really.

Hi Chris, thanks for the offer to help. Right now I am just moving from a breadboard to a protoboard. ;) I will be in touch when the schematics in closer to being final, at which point I will be moving to the next step.
Jason, I really think so! I am happy to present this build on instructables. I hope that it would reach many makers with kids and that they would do a responsible thing and build a Fochica device. I am here to help anybody who is interested.
