"Virtually worthless"? That seems unduly harsh. If you'll work on the project I'm convinced you'll have your questions answered. I found Blynk by looking for an app to do something similar using an Arduino Yun (my first Yun project). Found it all by my own self. The Blynk app and the website made it all so easy....but I had to go do it and learn it. You can learn about the ESP8266 by doing a search on Amazon, and another search for a data sheet on the piece. The explanations in this Instructable seemed quite good to me, but then I come from a background in finance and economics, so I often struggle and wish for help in this 'easy' field of electronics. When I bog down I know I can figure it out. So....Go. Try. And have fun!! (:>)
