I actually mistook your comment lol. Why the heck would you want to glue bearings to pencils lol. My reply was of the slow guy variety lol. So with that my main reason for bearings is just having weight to your helping hands. Prevent any tipping. I have had to use mine for rc batteries and those are quite heavy. But after re reading your comment i could see using pencils. So long your not doing anything to heavy ?

Nice idea! Its funny in 10th grade i made a bookstand thats exactly like this without the tin light socket
Is that an X-ray of your legs? Looks mighty painful
You can use virtually anything really. I'd go with old marker tubes before pencils. The weight behind the ball bearings alone would probably snap pencils. And also you'd want something that has a broader circumference. To hold them in place. I even got board once and made one all out of ball bearings lol it was more of a weapon than tool.

I seem to be having trouble getting to my message board. So ill leave this here as you Danger are the one who asked me to be a judge in the renewable contest going on now. I just wanted you to know im more than happy to judgr the contest. But was wondering if we could take my name off the prize that judges could win due to the fact. That i have 3 rotory tools already amd wouldnt need another. So itd be more useful for someone else to win and eliminate my chances. Anyway thank you and ill be voting soon
