Also, most dividers don't have the thumbwheel for width control, making them more like using tweezer probes-- and those can be had for comparatively reasonable prices!
I looked at some dividers and the difficulty was that they tended to have all-metal legs, which of course means you'd have to figure out how to insulate the point and wire when you put it back into the leg...
I should add that some compass models do come with extra points to convert them to dividers, though they tend to be a) quite a bit larger and b) somewhat pricier than the Helix model.
