That is not real smoke. It is fiberfill batting like you find inside of a pillow. You can also fluff up cotton batting to get the same effect, also used to make cloud lamps. If you wanted to do a mini smoke machine to generate real smoke or fog, experiment with high output vape e-cig devices blown with a small air pump/fan. Good luck.

Are you going to put this through the waterjet to cut it in half? It would be interesting to know if all that work only compacts the outermost layers or if it goes all the way through.

Thanks. The best projects for kids are something they have an interest in. Light up chip/dip bowl...IoT/Bluetooth/Wifi enabled and when empty to let you know to get more. Let him run with it.
You can program it so it times out or everyone blows out the candles on a birthday cake. Same thought of having a fancy table set with a fancy centerpiece and a multitude of stemware, dishes and silverware vs a piece of butcher paper and leftover napkins from a previous takeout order. Someone out there wants one. You make it for the conversation starter and that's something to chew on.

Nice job! I knew you had too much fun making this...probably as much fun wearing it... They invented the comic section of newspapers in color to make paper mache projects more exciting. If you are making headpieces, maybe next time start out with one of those hardhat plastic construction helmets as a base(they are relatively inexpensive). They have the whole headstrap business built in and takes the load off of a heavy build.

- caitlinsdad commented on geekluve's forum topic Medium weight quilting Fabric3 months agoView Topic »
You really need to get a hold of a swatch of material to really see if it fits your needs (too thin, thick, fluffy, stretchy, slippery...etc) since those name descriptions are pretty general. But, you can use any material you like or find and laminate that to your base fabric with iron on bonding fabric sheets(heat fusible interfacing). Your printed fabric is the "cover" for your knife/tool roll made from a sturdier fabric. Medium weight quilting fabric might be similar to good bedsheets and broadcloth is probably similar to a fabric tablecloth or napkin. Layers of fabric bonded together create a sturdier fabric and you can also treat the outside of the case with Scotchgard fabric protector spray.Hand sewing might get a little tough with the several layers of fabric but shoul...

I see the challenge and learning opportunity in basic discrete electronics but I would take advantage of new tech like microcontrollers - arduino and neopixels. Have you seen the Lixie tube https://hackaday.io/project/18633-lixie-an-led-alternative-to-the-nixie-tube which is what I think you are trying to do? Good luck.

Sure is! By the way, get some LEDs to light up your paper piggybanks https://www.instructables.com/id/Moving-Paper-Dragon-Piggy-Bank/ for something cool. Try other hollow origami shapes too!
View Instructable »Without a bit of circuitry (latching switches/timer chips/microcontrollers arduino/coin acceptor mechanisms) the easiest thing to do is to have the coin drop on to a switch pad or slot with wire contact wipers on the sides so the metal coin completes the circuit. The LED will turn on or flash when the coin is in the slot or until you move/shake it off the switch.

- caitlinsdad commented on Steve_Lane63's forum topic 3V Hobby Motor in a 6V Circuit.3 months ago
Were you planning to control that motor with the UNO? In general, motors can draw a lot of current at startup which may be more than the arduino can provide thus damaging your board. They use "motor shields" or h-bridge circuits or transistors to act like electronic relays to isolate the board in this situation. Even tiny motors or large string of LEDs that require a lot of power will damage a board if wired up directly. You might want to look through some robotics projects or other arduino projects with motors to learn about using them. There is also arduino.cc for arduino help. Good luck.
Oh, the reason your servos work - even though they are "motors" - it is only the digital data signal to control the servo from the arduino coming from the "brains" or chip - the power is wired directly through to the power source. Straining the servos might blow the fuse on the board though.

and those car rear backup cam systems are cheap too. Wired too and 12v battery pack shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Nice job. I would tack on a light at the end to see where you are reaching into, and maybe a magnet to retain the loosen bolt or nut. To this day, somewhere in my car's engine compartment is the screwdriver bit that fell out of its handle when I used it to pry something.

The basis of this project is a Flora with a microphone module and neopixel rings. It is better explained in detail with code in https://learn.adafruit.com/led-ampli-tie/overview The Adafruit Flora is essentially a regular Arduino. You might want to check out the many other tutorials for the Flora in the Adafruit Learn site. There is one on how to get started programming the Flora with setup and code. Move on to learn about Neopixels - one, a strip, a ring, a matrix, then learn how to attach sensors and build your sound reactive visual meter. Good luck.

Look into some of those faux stone texture spray paints for cool effects. It's amazing what they have out now.
I guess you would have had an easier time gluing if you used an iron to activate the hot glue already on the strip. At least score the cut line before breaking off the edge since you can tear off a chunk of the veneer. You can also find edge banding without the adhesive too.
