Hi HilleIP,I had exactly the same problem and then I found this information ( for solar chargers. A step down converter like this can work with a good powerfull solar panel in a very sunny day. If you cannot have that you would need to try a MPPT Solar Buck regulator (see this guy and his excellent videos Hope it helps!
