I have never used the rolls of mesh. I would prefer to cut them 2" wide without having to unroll and cut. I am not sure if there is a way to cut all the way through the layers while still on the roll. Other wise I would unroll it onto layers on my cutting board and then use my quilting ruler/rotery cutter, to cut the 2 inch wide strips. Sounds like an experiment to me. Thanks for asking.

Boiling them definitely makes a difference (or just microwave them). You won't notice it if you just measure the voltage but they are able to output more power. This is because cooking them reduces the internal resistance.

Can you post a picture here so that I can see what is happening. I will watch for your picture. Filet crochet is like counted cross stitch, You need to keep track of where you are in your pattern and keep your counting in place. You may need to pull out a couple of rows to the place where your problem started and correct your mistake. Also practice helps a lot. I have made over 100 of these and I still make mistakes and have to go back to where the mistake is and correct it. Hope this helps/
