Not big. It's just a bulb auger for planting bulbs that you can get at about any garden center for a couple of dollars. It's maybe 2 to 2-1/2 feet long and around a 3" circumference.
That is such a great tip. How big is your auger?
This looks so fab. Just wondering if anyone can help me as I've been puzzling over this for the last few hours! Would anyone tell me how to make this into an all-wood construction? In my climate it would be too cold for the wire sides...what changes would I need to make in wood sizes and amounts to give it 4 wood sides each? :-/ I'd only need one side of each pod to be slated, the others could be fixed in wood... anyone better at DIY than me greatly appreciated! :-D
Made this with cedar treated with shellac a couple years ago. Been working great so far!
Great instructions thank you so much "Cut n Paste" for all the detail. Really not too hard if you have the right tools. I'm no expert at woodworking so if I can make this anyone can. I had to used treated pine as it was all I could get which sucked, hence the paint (to reduce the wood leaching nasties). It's a ridiculous duck-egg blue as I was using up some spare eco-paint! Other than that, the two main amendments I made were to change sizes a bit to fit the space I had available, and also I use screws instead of nails as easier to correct my stuff ups when I use screws. Does require a lot more pilot hole drilling but worth it for me. Thanks again "Cut n Paste"!
