I made this bumper your instruction using 1/2 inch poly rope. I used three pieces 15 feet long. II found the mid point and leaving only one rope sticking about a hand (four inches) above the others I tied them together just as you directed. Then I followed the rest of your directions. The only problem I had was keeping the poly rope tight so after finishing the bumper and have the long strands left over I tucked them under the previous coils as you suggested but I tucked them under all the way to the bottom. It was a pain but it took up any slack left over in the coil. Thanks.
