    Free Energy from Thin Air!

Radio signals do not "fly around" people's heads; they fly through them, or at least partway through, depending on the wavelength. This will attenuate the signal--as you know--again depending on the wavelength. Also, depending on the wavelength, signals do not come straight from the TX to the RX even on supposed "line of sight" frequencies. In the case of microwave (i.e. cell and WiFi) propagation is very much based on omnidirectional (not "stray") signals as well as 'bounces' off of buildings, etc.Transferring energy will result in a loss on one side and a lesser gain on the other due to principles of conservation and entropy. My comment was directed to those who think there is "free" energy to be had from HV power lines, or electromagnetic radiat...see more »Radio signals do not "fly around" people's heads; they fly through them, or at least partway through, depending on the wavelength. My comment was directed to those who think there is "free" energy to be had from HV power lines, or electromagnetic radiation of any sort. Entropy simply means that the less energy there is in a system, the harder, less efficient and more costly it will be to extract energy from it. That said, it is worth trying particularly by folks who know it can be done (or as the saying goes: too ignorant to know it can't) so keep trying.KF6OXI, WCX8559

    Free Energy from Thin Air!

Isn't the 'static in the RF band' and the 'snow' on an analog TV (remember those?) from the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation? Not generated by the earth's magnetic field as hoped in this project is it?Nothing is free and everything degrades from 'useful' to 'not so useful'. That's entropy for you. Yes, treasures may be found in other peoples trash, but extracting energy from anything will reduce the energy available to do what ever the entity that generated the energy--power company or my cell phone--intended and that is neither 'right' nor legal.

Your response is appreciated, but I'm not clear how it relates to my comment. I haven't a clue about my cell tower nor do I anticipate that I will become "concerned" in the event that some people build devices that might possibly "harvest free energy" flying about. To your point: radio signals do not "fly around" people's heads; they fly through them, or at least partway through, depending on the wavelength.
