How to Re-paint an Altoids Tin
I've camped thousands of times, now... Been 8800 miles by bicycle on two excursions where I camped outside over a year and 4 months. Hike every weekend, camp twice per month. Live in the Sonoran Desert, now, so carry next to nothing sometimes. What have I learned? Well, one thing I learned is there are a lot of people who just like collecting gadgets and talking a lot about those gadgets. Also, there are 'current trends'. The current trend are hammocks. To those people, anybody with a tent is passe. In reality? I' slept in a hammock many times. It's uncomfortable and chills the back... Without cutting down on weight at all. They still carry a tarp, then have to try and rig something to keep the back warm. Mosquito's bite through cloth, on thebottom of a tarp. A 1.5 lb to 2 pound bivvy/fly system is much better. Only carry the fly when it is going to rain.Tent pegs? Carefully bend from coat hangers, 6" long. Weigh less than any pegs you can buy, including aluminium.Cooking pot and stove? Make a Foster's beer can pot and a coke can penny stove and buy the small titanium bushbox stove.Clothing? Buy a 9 ounce down puffer jacket from eBay directly from China for $30. Will compress up to nothing and give extra warmth inside sleeping bag. Use Sol lite, use snugpak traveller bag... Very comfortable and tiny. secure
Excellent instructions and focus on safety. May I ask how the magazine tube is removed? I don't yet own a 500 but plan to in the near future, and for my purposes (clay shooting) I want to remove the dowel placed in the tube that limits it's capacity to be legal for hunting.
