Hi imerrymary,The measurement at "Tape together at this line" is a smidge over 6 inches. I drew around my plastic template so it's probably 1/64 inch extra at each side. That would add up to 1/8 inch overall, but that won't make a huge difference in the finished product. I'm so glad you're going to make one! I hope it keeps you warm in NC. You can alter it for super cold weather, too. My sister lives in Seattle, which is often wet and cold, and she wears hers almost all the time. Please upload a pic when you're done, if you can. :)
