Making a Grill From Junk
Buy a roll of tin. Cover the wood closest to the grill with it; have a little class, tack it down nicely, prep it, and paint it with high temp paint. Now, you have a non-porous, waterproof, heat-resistant surface close to the grill that won't scorch and won't soak up meat juice/beer/other fluids.
