Im from Spain. And I've live in the UK for 3 year (different locations).The set of sockets from the creator of this instructable is definitely a EU standard. Those sockets tend to work for 100v-240v, no problem, and up to 20A (some maybe even more). Some of those come with switches, some with fuses, some of them with short-circuit and overload safety protection (it all depends on how much you want to pay for). Regarding the British ones, they look like the picture from AlfonsVH. But many of them do not have a switch. Some of them do, some of the don't. Although it's true that the ratio of UK switched sockets vs EU switched sockets is slightly higher, but I doubt it reaches more than 30% total.
