"Black socks and Birkenstocks do not maketh the geek. I would argue that the essence of geekitude comes from within. To the true geek, it's not enough that things work. He or she must know how things work. And beyond that, there is the nagging temptation to make said things work just a tad bit better than factory spec. This curious and compulsive fixing of things that are not broken -- that's true geekitude." --David Plotnikoff I’m an Intel officer for the US Army and I also work with comp... Read More »

Making A Pen Out Of Paper

Thanks for this great 'ible! I make pens from Antler and other weird stock. Now I have to try paper. One question (and it would make another great 'ible), how to do sell the pens? Do you do it via etsy, flea markets, word of mouth, craft fairs, etc? I can't seem to find a place to sell them in any great quantity. Maybe you can talk about pricing as well. I normally sell an antler bolt action pen for about $40. Is that too low? Thanks.

    Clamping at ANY Angle

First, this is a neat 'ible. But I really LOVE the idea of using paper for the angles. That is worth the 'ible by itself! Thanks for sharing.

    Anti-Keyboard Cat Attack Mat (AKCAM)

Thanks for the vote!! I'd love to win one of these contest one day. 8>)I've seen the software, and the problem I had wasn't the cat actually walking on the keys, as it was them wanting to lie down in front of me, making it impossible to type or mouse over them. This solution allows my kitties to lay down right in front of me (satisfying them) and still letting me work. Thanks again for the vote and the comment!

Breathe New Life into an Old Computer

I agree. I have 20 year old computers running old versions of OS (I even have a Windows 3.1 machine.) I've 'air gaped' them from the internet, so there is no risk of inflection (these means that these machines do not connect to any network.) But they run some awesome features and software that still works well. I have a 3d architect program that was for Win3.1. It still makes the same great drawings, and I don't have to worry about learning curves with new releases!I also have some machines that hooked up to TVs with large drives so they serve as a media server. In the shop I have an old laptop that is just for diagnosing cars wih ODBII connectors and software. In fact, I'm finding that I like older machines NOT hooked up to outside networks better. This way I only have a few machines that access the net and they are the only ones I worry about keeping up to date.Throwing Linux on a old machine is also a great way to skip the "OS Bloat" of modern software. Thanks for the great 'ible and saving some resources!( I did just finally purchase win server 12r2 for my webserver upgrade from 2003. So I'm behind the curve there!) DOH!
