    So I made a stripped down version of this, and it works great, thank you!I used an ESP8266-01 module and a single WS2811 module with an RGB LED. It's basically a way for a family member (concerned grandmother) to know if I'm home after a night out when i'm at university!   • Connect to Blynk using ESP8266 as Arduino Uno wifi shield (Mac only)

    I got it working, but you may consider adding a note in your instructable.For me, after flashing the ESP8266 with the firmware you used, it defaulted to a baud rate of 115200. I used the command "AT+UART_DEF=9600,8,1,0,0" to change the baud rate so it would work with your code.I understand that I could change the baud rate of the software serial, but as I understand it, 9600 is more stable.

    I successfully made and installed your system on my bedroom door, I even hid the wires to make it look semi professional.The reader is behind a blanking plate with the rgb led visible through a hole I made in it. The rest of the system is housed inside a surface mount patress box on the inside of the door and it has a green status led, along with the reset button hidden underneath it.I modified the code so that when you're adding/removing user tags, the system doesn't have to cycle through all the led colours (look at blink without delay example).The other modification is that once powered up, I can press the wipe button and it will unlock the door either until the switch is pressed again or 30 minutes have passed.

    Arduino RC522 RFID Door Unlock

    How can I wait for a card to be read or a button to be pressed? I'm wanting to place a button on my control box which will toggle the relay so I can leave the door unlocked until the button is pressed again. I was thinking of using interrupt to change the state of a toggle flag, but I am an arduino novice.
