    The pads of the bridge and 4N35 are not touching as they may appear in the attached picture , i'll make sure of that.

    Hi thanks soo much for the reply , i really appreciate this, i used vero-board and i possibly short circuited one of the tracts as you said. Possibly while etching, hence the blowing up of the rectifier bridge . I decided to implement this on a PCB. I designed the Attached PCB and intend to print it , will this be fine ? PCB design is so costly so i hope i get this correct this the first time.I didn't put the resistor to the atmega on my PCB as i will use a bread board for that .Should i be fine with these connections ?(Sorry for my bad english)

    Hi , i finally received my IRF 730's In the mail and tried making this circuit to no avail. I have no clue as to what i may be doing wrong :(. The mains trips every time i switch the circuit on . Then i tried to build again and the rectifier bridge blew up. Please help , i really don't want to attempt Giesberts circuit as i feel many people have had problems with that.

    Hi , i finally received all components for this design in the mail and tried building it. Every time i switch the circuit on the mains trip : (. I tried building the circuit again today and the rectifier bridge blew up. I use 230V 50Hz AC. Please help i really don't want to attempt Giesberts design as i feel yours is much more efficient and less troublesome .I ordered all components as per your specifications.

    Thanks for the reply, you are right, i will most probably implement on a pcb. Just one last question, i promise :) ... Can i use IRF 830 instead of 730, which i'm finding really high to come by... IRF 830 has a 500v ,4.5 A rating.

    Hey thank you so much for this,really appreciate (and admire) your work. I am using this as part of my designproject and I was wondering if it's safe to implement this on a bread board asyou have here? Also, with regards to the coding of the UC, if I were towrite a simple square wave on a PWM pin of my Atmega 32 ,would that be fine?...
